The Government Printing Office is administered and managed by the Department of Property and Procurement pursuant to Title 3 Chapter 13 Section 218 Virgin Islands Code and Title 31 Chapter 21 Section 203 Virgin Islands Code. This Division is responsible for printing material for the three branches of Government. With seven (7) specialized employees this division is well equipped with the manpower needed for large volume printing.
The Government Printing Office (GPO) has always been eager to assist the Virgin Islands Government by saving Departments and Agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars in printing cost. Currently the cost for printing is six cents (.06) per impression or lower, depending on the job requirements. An impression is the image produced when a sheet of paper is passed through a Printing Press or Copying Machine.
The following are some of the many printing responsibilities of the GPO:
- The Governor’s Executive Budget in coordination with Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
- Tickets for the Virgin Islands Lottery’s twenty-four (24) drawings and two (2) extraordinary drawing along with twenty-six (26) prize lists. Approximately Three Million (3,000,000) impressions per year are printed for the Virgin Islands Lottery.
- Graduation Diplomas for all public junior high and high schools.
- Absentee Ballot and sample ballots for the Board of Elections for all primaries and general elections.
- Student Handbooks for Charlotte Amalie High School, Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, J. Antonio Jarvis Elementary School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, Kirwan Terrace Elementary School, and Joseph Gomez Elementary School.
- Envelopes, business cards, letterheads, office forms, annual reports, booklets, carbonless forms, posters, invitations, programs, handbooks, etc.
All request for printing must be accompanied by the following:
- An encumbered Central Stores Warehouse Requisition for the cost of printing, which is determined by the quantity of each job being requested and a Request for Printing Form.
- Stock must correspond with the amount being requested.
- Example: If Two Thousand Five Hundred (2,500) letterheads are requested you must send five (5) reams (A ream equals a package of 500 sheets of paper) of paper, not four (4) reams of paper.
- All stock must be marked with the Department’s name and the Requisition Number upon submission of the request. (The Printing Division will not be responsible for any unmarked stock).
- A current or updated sample of the printing request must also be submitted.
- A “Contact Person” should also be submitted in case of any questions about the job
We urge all Departments and Agencies to take advantage of the many capabilities, quality and most of all, the low cost of printing that is available at the Government Printing Office.
